At its core the Empowerment Cycle is about reconnecting you to your body and charting your cycle is the first step in doing this.

Put simply, you take the time to sit and think about how you feel physically and emotionally. Is your body sore and tender or powerful and flexible? Are you happy, full of energy, calm and centered, passionate and powerful or inward and reflective?

After you sit and listen to your body, you colour in your chart to secure the process. What colours are you drawn to today? How much do you want to write? Do you even want to chart today? Just being aware of these different feelings and emotions will contribute to the process of mindfulness.

An entire stress-reduction program with decades of experience and tens of thousands of practitioners is an excellent indication that mindfulness works.

Mindfulness is considered to be a key element in fighting stress and regulating emotions and there are numerous studies that back up this idea, with one on present-moment awareness finding it facilitates an adaptive response to daily stressors.

Another study found that mindfulness, more so than relaxation or self-affirmation controls, produces less avoidance and more approach coping as a response to stress.

In a world of daily stress, anxiety and expectation, the mind can come under much pressure, directly affecting mood and making you less positive and somewhat disconnected from yourself. Meditation has a profound, rich, and calming effect on the body, clears your mind and advocates feelings of peace and a sense of awareness. It is a chance to tap into an abundance of creative energy to give a more meaningful experience of life that will enrich you permanently.

For me, charting is definitely a form of mindfulness. I take my pencils and pens and my charting calendar and find a quiet place to sit for moment. I close my eyes, take a deep breath and ask myself: How do I feel emotionally and physically? I wait a moment, then open my eyes and start to write, draw and colour. I use essential oils sometimes to enhance the process by popping a few drops of one of the Emgoddess essential oils into a diffuser.

Therapists from many disciplines recommend journalling your emotions as a means of processing your thoughts, dealing with situations or simply connecting to your inner self. The Emgoddess approach of charting takes this concept much further to gain a true sense of all you are, highlighting the connection between your menstrual cycle and your emotions.

Recording your cycle is beneficial in many ways: it will help you to understand how your cycle impacts every aspect of your life, no matter where you are in the cycle. A healthy cycle equals a healthy you. Its regularity will show you that your body is working well, then whenever there are unusual disruptions, you will uncover them first through your charts, which will give you an incredible heads-up on potential health challenges long before they become a major problem.

You should chart because:

It is hard to appreciate and work with your menstrual cycle if you do not stop to listen every now and then. Organise your month around your menstrual patterns.

So let’s get started!
